CHARLESTON, S.C. (Dec. 7, 2017) - The EDP-NPL Division hosted 54 boys games, Dec. 2-3 at the Pittsgrove Soccer Complex in Pittsgrove Township, N.J.
The flurry of games kicked off the boys divisions and provided an early glimpse at the contenders that will eventually qualify to the inaugural ENPL Playoffs in summer 2018. Four new clubs have joined the league for the 2017-18 season: Cedar Stars Academy, Delaware FC, PDA Hibernian and Philadelphia Ukrainian Nationals.
19-U (1999/00s) boys
The oldest age group has a newcomer at the top of the standings. Delaware FC earned two convincing victories to jump out to an undefeated start. TSF Academy is also 2-0-0, but its wins were of smaller margins.
17-U (2001s) boys
Delaware FC and Bethesda SC each rode a pair of four-goal games to their 2-0-0 season starts. Philadelphia Ukrainian Nationals are not far behind at 1-1-0 after beating FC Copa Academy and tying TSF Academy.
16-U (2002s) boys
There's a four-way tie for first place in this age group: Delaware FC, Ironbound SC, Philadelphia Ukrainian Nationals and Pipeline SC. While there were some high scores on Dec. 2, the following day proved to be more competitive, as four of the five games were decided by two goals or less.
15-U (2003s) boys
Delaware FC, Philadelphia Ukrainians Nationals and SAC Showcase lead this division with 2-0-0 records. PDA Hibernian is another team to watch, though, as it came up only one goal shy of tying Delaware FC on opening day - and then followed that up with a 2-0 decision over Pipeline SC this past Sunday.
14-U (2004s) boys
Two clubs escaped unscathed in the season's first weekend of action: Philadelphia Ukrainian Nationals and Manhattan SC. Each earned convincing victories, but are trailed closely by 1-1-0 Delaware FC and PDA Hibernian, which tied each other on Saturday before shutting out their respective opponents on Sunday.
The rest of the boys games will be played in late winter, while girls games within the EDP - NPL Division kick off in the spring.
EDP - NPL Division winners have different postseason pathways based on age group and gender. Girls regular season winners advance to the 2018 Girls NPL Finals in Colorado in July. On the boys side of the brackets, winning regular season teams qualify for either the ENPL Eastern Playoffs (14-U through 17-U) or 19-U ENPL National Championship. Third and fourth place finishers in boys 15-U through 17-U age groups advance to the NPL Eastern Playoffs.
