CHARLESTON, S.C. (Jan. 29, 2015) - Top U-16 through U-18 boys and girls NPL teams are invited to apply for NPL berths at the 2015 soccerloco San Diego Surf Cup, to be held July 25-27 at the San Diego Polo Club. Accepted teams will compete in one of the nation’s elite college showcase events against teams from around the country. The application deadline is April 15.
This is the first year of the US Club Soccer/ soccerloco San Diego Surf Cup partnership, but the showcase event is in its 35th year. More than 450 college coaches and scouts are expected to attend.
Interested teams should be aware of the age group structure based on 2015-16 registration:
- U-16: born on or after Aug. 1, 1999
- U-17: born on or after Aug. 1, 1998
- U-18: born on or after Aug. 1, 1997
Accepted NPL teams will compete for soccerloco San Diego Surf Cup championships within the standard tournament format.
“This is a great opportunity for NPL teams to gain exposure to college recruiting while playing in one of the best competitive events in the country,” NPL General Manager Leo Garcia said. “We’re confident that the NPL representatives in the Surf Cup will have a tremendous experience.”
“We’re excited to host the US Club Soccer NPL teams,” Surf Cup President Mike Connerley said, “and we’re looking forward to providing them with the classic Surf Cup experience, as defined by our beautiful weather, great complexes and competition and the largest gathering of college coaches in youth soccer.”
The partnership with the soccerloco San Diego Surf Cup is the second US Club Soccer college showcase partnership in 2015. In March, 37 NPL teams will compete for Jefferson Cup championships in Richmond, Va.
