The Colorado Division of the Mountain Developmental League recently kicked off its first season on the Front Range of the Denver metro area with six clubs competing in the U-13 through U-17 boys age groups.
The inaugural weekend of play took place Dec. 1-2 with teams in action from Arsenal Colorado of Fort Collins, Colorado Rush of Lakewood, Colorado Storm of Englewood, FC Boulder of Boulder, Pride Soccer of Colorado Springs and Real Colorado of Centennial.
“Speaking for Real Colorado, the staff feels the NPL is a great opportunity for high-level U-13 through U-17 boys soccer in Colorado,” said Shawn Comegys, NPL Coaching Director for Real Colorado. “We could not have asked for a better December day to kick off the NPL season. The competition and style of play between the Real and Storm teams was another plus for soccer here in the state. For me personally, the camaraderie with both the coaching staffs provided a positive atmosphere for these young men to compete and grow in the sport.”
Mountain Developmental League championship-winning teams from the Colorado Division will not need to travel far to compete in the 2013 NPL Champions Cup, as the second annual event is slated to take place July 18-22 at Aurora Sports Park in suburban Denver.
