A quick survey of that list quickly demonstrates the quality of play expected at the 2013 NPL Champions Cup and just how hard it will be for teams to claim titles.
With just one month remaining until the kickoff of the 2013 NPL Champions Cup in suburban Denver, the list of teams qualifying for the event has grown to include more than 110 top teams from all across the United States, with more to be added in the coming days. A quick survey of that list quickly demonstrates the quality of play expected at the 2013 NPL Champions Cup and just how hard it will be for teams to claim titles.
The NPL Champions Cup, US Club Soccer’s league-based national championship competition, is scheduled for July 18-22 at Aurora Sports Park. The event will include U-13 through U-18 boys and girls teams that have qualified by winning titles in one of the 17 NPLs.
Among the leagues to recently determine winners were the Northeast Pre-Academy League, Mountain Developmental League, New York Club Soccer League, EDP and New England Premier League.
Northeast Pre-Academy League
The Northeast Pre-Academy League held its 2013 Playoffs and PDP June 15-16 at PA Classics Park in Manheim, Pa. Leading the way with a pair of titles was New York Red Bulls, which claimed the U-14 and U-15 divisions. PDA, which boasted finalists in all three age groups, earned the U-13 crown.
US Club Soccer also hosted a Player Development Program (PDP) event for the top boys born in 2000 from across the league. The PDP event took place on June 16, with scouts in attendance from U.S. Soccer (Clint Peay and Carl Rees) as well as US Club Soccer’s id2 Program. Players identified through the PDP event will be considered for inclusion in U.S. Soccer National Team programming and upcoming id2 Program Training Camps.
Mountain Developmental League
Bringing together the top teams from each of its two divisions, champions of the Mountain Developmental League were determined June 8-9 at Gates Soccer Complex in Centennial, Colo. Teams in the U-13 through U-17 boys age groups from five different clubs each earned a championship at the event.
New York Club Soccer League
Regular season play is winding down in the New York Club Soccer League, where six of the 10 titles have been decided. Leading the way with a pair of crowns is Parsippany SC, which claimed the U-13 and U-18 boys titles. However, multiple clubs still have the opportunity to claim a second league championship in the four remaining age groups.
The EDP is also drawing its regular season to a close, with nine of the 12 championships already awarded. Both Manhattan SC (U-13 and U-16 girls) and TSF Academy (U-15 and U-17 girls) have earned a pair of titles so far with the U-14, U-15 and U-16 boys divisions still to be decided.
New England Premier League
Rounding out the recent list of league winners are representatives from the New England Premier League, which crowned five champions in the U-13 through U-17/18 boys age groups. Leading the way with two titles each were Western United Pioneers Red (U-13 and U-14) and CFC Azul Juniors (U-15 and U-16).
