NPL clubs well represented on 2013 id2 National Selection International Tour

The 2013 id2 National Selection International Tour to Spain is less than a week away, and the National Premier Leagues will be well represented when the team departs for Spain to face youth academy squads from the likes of Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.

Of the 18-player roster — which consists of boys born in 1999 and 2000 from 17 clubs and 10 states — 15 play in the NPL, and 15 NPL member clubs are represented.

Players were selected from id2 Program events held in 2012, and NPL clubs played a crucial role in helping them reach that point. Scouting was done primarily at the club level, aligning with a foundational principle of the id2 Program that evaluation should take place in the environment where players are most comfortable.

"We are proud to see so many players from NPL clubs chosen for the id2 National Selection International Tour," NPL General Manager Chris Baer said. "These selections reinforce the great work our member clubs have been doing for long-term player development, and we will continue to focus on our mission of providing clubs with a platform for high-level competition while allowing players to be scouted for the id2 Program, PDP events and U.S. National Team Programs at minimal cost.

"We wish these players and their teammates the best of luck in Spain.”
The 2013 id2 NSIT is the fourth international trip organized by US Club Soccer’s id2 Program, and this year’s team will visit Spain to play matches against youth academy programs from clubs such as Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, in addition to conducting daily training sessions and gaining the unique educational and cultural experience of life in another country.

The list of represented NPL clubs can be found below, and it includes six clubs that reached the 2012 NPL Champions Cup finals: Dallas Texans, PDA, FC Dallas, New York Red Bulls, Chicago Fire Academy and BW Gottschee (formerly New York Cosmos). Two players on the id2 NSIT roster faced off for the U-13 championship, with midfielder Omar Beltran’s Texans winning on penalty kicks over Josh Burnett and PDA.
