CHARLESTON, S.C. (April 13, 2016) - Tom Blencoe, a Liverpool FC American coach, has received the Positive Coaching Alliance Double-Goal Coach Award presented by TeamSnap for his positive impact on youth athletes.
Blencoe is among only 50 national recipients of the Double-Goal Coach award, named for coaches who have the ability to pursue winning while teaching important life lessons through sports. The accolade also comes with a $200 prize and certificate.
With Liverpool FC America, Blencoe coaches the '98 boys and '02 girls teams within the National Premier Leagues' (NPL) United Soccer Clubs Champions League. He also serves as the club's Director of Player Programs.
“Tom helps his players win on and off the pitch,” said Danielle Moorman, Executive Director of PCA-North Texas, in a statement. “By creating a positive, character-building youth sports experience and serving as a Double-Goal Coach, Tom helps youth develop into better athletes and better people.”
Blencoe told Positive Coaching Alliance that Liverpool FC America is intent on developing players "the right way."
“Our club is not in it to win every game, especially at the younger levels,” Blencoe said. “We want to win through our development, win through our education. It’s about winning the right way, with good sportsmanship and integrity. My definition of success is reaching your true potential as a player and as a person.
“The players are the ones who choose whether they sprint or jog, whether they’re going to go all the way to that white line or skip it by a foot. I’m trying to stress to them they they’re not going to be able to get away with those choices if they want to be successful in life. In work and in school you need to give everything that you’ve got.”
