Numerous PDPs scheduled the rest of the year; how PDPs contribute to US Club Soccer's vision, mission & core values
CHARLESTON, S.C. (Oct. 19, 2016) - Several more Player Development Program (PDP) events are on the schedule for the remainder of the year, meaning plenty of opportunities around the country to identify and develop up and coming talent.
Many of those PDPs will be hosted by NorCal Premier Soccer, which operates an extensive PDP schedule with multiple events per week. A quartet of PDPs will be hosted by Northern Illinois Soccer League (NISL), along with others being hosted by New York Club Soccer League (NYCSL), New England Premiership and the Elite Clubs National League.
The Hawaii Soccer Federation hosted a pair of PDPs over the past two weekends, in which id² boys director Gerry McKeown was on-site to scout for potential invitations to the next id² Training Camp, Dec. 8-11 in Casa Grande, Ariz.
PDPs are regionally based identification and developmental programs conducted within the id² Program umbrella. Generally, PDPs are focused around the National Premier Leagues (NPL) – like the NISL, NorCal NPL, NYCSL, New England Premier League, Gulf States Premier League, Florida NPL, Arizona NPL, USC Champions League, South Central Premier League, Texas Pre-Academy League, Northeast Pre-Academy League, etc. – and other top leagues in specific geographic areas.
PDP invitations are based upon objective scouting of elite clubs and leagues, combined with recommendations from top Directors of Coaching. Each PDP includes at least one training session and one internal competition. Some PDPs also include off-field educational components, as well.
Both the id² Program and PDPs have been granted Olympic Development Program status by the U.S. Soccer Federation and the U.S. Olympic Committee.
US Club Soccer has a bold vision statement: “US Club Soccer will be the finest soccer organization in America and an integral part of U.S. National Team success,” which applies to all its programming, including PDPs. One of US Club Soccer’s core values, in particular, relates to its ongoing PDP efforts: “Every US Club Soccer program will be measured on its contribution towards improved player development and growth of the game.”
Just a month ago, two PDP alumni – from events hosted by the NPL’s Texas Pre-Academy League – signed professional contracts. Many PDP participants have matriculated to the id² Program, including training camps, the id² National Selection International Tour (boys) and ECNL/id² National Training Camp (girls). US Club Soccer collaborates with U.S. Soccer to have Federation scouts at its id² events. The boys’ international tour, for example, features one U.S. Soccer technical advisor who is among the delegation, where he/she evaluates and interacts directly with players. Identification and promotion to U.S. Soccer youth national team programming has included the likes of Christian Pulisic, who was a member of the 2012 team to Spain.
