Great Lakes Alliance, Northeast Girls NPL league winners join ENPL, NPL qualifiers after competitive playoff weekends

Five teams from four clubs clinched league championships this past weekend at the 2019 Northeast Girls NPL Playoffs. Hosted at the FC Stars Complex in Lancaster, Massachusetts, twenty Northeast Girls NPL member teams competed for league titles and qualification to the 2019 Girls NPL Finals, with two teams from FC Stars, and teams from PDA South, SUSA Academy, and Scorpions SC ultimately taking home championships.

Host club FC Stars (Mass.) captured the 13-U and 14-U divisions, while PDA South (N.J.) won the 15-U age group. SUSA Academy (N.Y.) collected the 16-U competition, and Scorpions FC (Mass.) rounded out the winners with the 17-U title.

Meanwhile, the Great Lakes Alliance hosted their league playoff championship matches, approximately 600 miles away at the Johnson Controls Hall of Fame Village in Canton, Ohio. GLA’s annual postseason event fielded boys and girls 13-U through 19-U NPL teams and resulted in 12 teams from 7 different clubs clinching league divisions along with further advancement down their respective ENPL or NPL postseason pathways.

Three clubs took home multiple championships on Sunday, while Rochester FC led the way with 4 division titles, (15-U boys, 16-U boys, 19-U boys, 13-U girls). Empire United SA-Niagara (13-U boys, 17-U boys) and Northern Steel Soccer (15-U girls, 16-U girls) each captured two age groups.

These champions’ further postseason pathways will vary, as the 13-U and 14-U boys group winners will advance to the National Cup XVIII Finals, the 15-U through 17-U age groups have qualified to the ENPL National Playoff, and the oldest age group victor to the ENPL 19-U Second Division Championship. All girls division winners have earned their place in the Girls NPL Finals.
