Editors Note: As the Fall 2019 season begins, US Club Soccer will be highlighting each NPL member league with a Q&A of their league administrators and directors. The Florida NPL conversation is with administrator Lori Trautmann.
Question: Florida NPL is a seasoned veteran of the NPL, so looking back at your involvement over the years, what are the biggest changes that you've noticed in the evolution of the NPL?
Lori Trautmann: The postseason has become a major contribution to the growth of Florida NPL. The ENPL format has given more boys teams a path to nationals and exposure at postseason events. The girls program has shown growth in postseason national play at the NPL Finals.
Question: What do you want your members to know about Florida NPL this season?
Trautmann: Florida NPL continues to be a leader in providing state-wide league play, player identification programs that are provided free of charge, coordinated developmental games programs and an opportunity to participate in a spring showcase league.
Question: What do you want other NPLs to know about Florida NPL?
Trautmann: We have two other leagues under our Florida Premiership umbrella: Florida Premier League (state-wide) and Regional Elite Development League (regionally based). Between the three leagues (NPL, FLP, RED) we have 50 clubs and close to 700 teams in a 10-month season.
Question: Are you making any adjustments this season compared to previous seasons?
Trautmann: Yes, the 19-U boys age group now has divisional pool play to allow the 18-U and 19-U teams to both compete for the postseason.
