2019-20 NPL member league spotlight: Central States NPL

By US Club Soccer, 11/15/19, 3:30PM EST

Editor's Note: As the Fall 2019 season begins, US Club Soccer will be highlighting each NPL member league with a Q&A of their league administrators and directors. The Central States NPL conversation is with league director Chris McGill.

  • Total number of member clubs: 10 participating clubs from 4 states (IA, NE, KS and MO)
  • Season(s) schedule: The girls play their whole season between August through December. The boys play through the whole year (August through May), because the high school seasons are different.

Question: Central States NPL is only entering its third season but has already seen member clubs bring home three Girls NPL Finals championships. How will Central States NPL continue to establish itself among all the other NPLs?
McGill: Making this league a top priority. We want the best clubs and their best teams to participate in this league.

Question: What do you want your members to know about your league this season?
McGill: This league is establishing itself regionally and nationally. It is great to see so many teams in this league win their state cups and/or other major championships.

Question: What do you want other NPLs to know about your league?
The Central States NPL will continue to be a top-level league with high quality clubs participating in the league. We will continue to get the best clubs from each of the four member states.

Question: Are you making any adjustments this season compared to previous seasons?
McGill: We are not making any adjustments for this 2019-2020 soccer season. However, we do plan to make some adjustments to the league in 2020-2021, which will only improve the quality of the league. I can't speak much further on it yet, but more information will come at the end of the winter.

Question: How have Lou Fusz and Sporting St. Louis' championship wins this past season impacted your league?
Everyone in the league is aware and the other clubs are preparing accordingly. I truly believe everyone wants to knock them off and prove they are better.
